Confused please help

1st this is my 1st post here. I'm just a regular guy not a mechanic, mechanically inclined. Would love any advice I can get.
My truck is a 2011 Ford F150 5.0 Crew Cab 4X4 113,000 miles. My issue is Gas Mileage. I've been reading a lot about what different people do to get better gas mileage and have figured out my best course of action is probably tuning up the engine. Can't afford to do everything at once so I'm starting out with little things. PCV, K&N air filter, change oil every 5k full synthetic 5w30, Oil separator Catch Can, and consistantly using 87 octane Gas from a reputable station. PROBLEM; I was going to replace the fuel filter, but my truck doesn't seem to have a fuel filter. ANYONE know what my truck uses instead of a fuel filter. And if fixing or replacing it or anything else might help me get better gas milage. FYI... Little more about the truck and my driving. I don't drive fast, I do use the AC, It's not hilly where I live. Driving is 50 50 city hwy. But I'm mostly concerned about hwy milage. I use cruise control on long trips over 25 hwy miles. Truck has bedcover, I don't have any extra weight in the truck, My tires are road and dirt michelin regular tires, I'm told my truck should get 17 city 23 hwy milage. Average mileage is 12/14 combined. Highway is 16 to 18 if I drive like grandma going to church. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. & Please keep the wisecracks to a minimum🙏👍 Thanks in advance for any help.

You will get more responses in the truck specific area. For 50/50 in town and highway your mileage does not sound bad. If you are calculating for only highway your top speed makes a big difference. I had a 6.0 f350 and it could get 21 mpg at 65 but at 70 mileage would drop to to 18mpg.

Might try cleaning the mass air flow sensor. There's aerosol cleaner specific for that.

I don't know about your specific truck but some gas cars and trucks do not have a changeable fuel filter. Some just have a "sock" over the fuel pump intake.

I've tried the K&N air filters in a few different vehicles and switched them all back to regular paper filters. I couldn't detect a mileage improvement and sometimes they'd shed oil into the intake.

23 mpg for a 4wd gasser pickup sounds optimistic...possible if everything is perfect.

K&N filter will not help with mileage. Very few things you spend money on will make much impact except to cost you money.
Biggest way to improve fuel economy is with your right foot. On the highway don't use cruise and instead use a very light right foot, letting the truck slow down a little going up hills.
You can play around on fuely to see what other owners are reporting for mileage, but yours sounds "in the ballpark" for what people really get.

You could try hand-calculating a few tanks and maybe your lie-o-meter needs recalibrating. Are your tires stock p-metric size?

I'm sorry you bought into the K&N filter hype. I did the same. I agree with the other guy's on here take that thing off and chunk it in the trash or sell it at a garage sale or a swap meet!! I lost 2 mpg n my truck right off the bat and after a couple thousand miles it got worse. I followed some advice pulled the K&N, went back to Motorcraft then cleaned the mass airflow sensor mileage went back up to where it was before I bought the K&N. Thirty dollars down the drain. I just threw it away. I will never own another.
