Looking to see what best options might be to get the AC working again in the 76 Ranger project I am working on. Came with factory AC (390 motor in this one) and I see the compressor is missing. Appreciate any help on the best place to source a new or used compressor to get me some cold AC again!
I put this on my '76 high boy. love it. no more hammering compressor, takes less power, makes R134 work better and best of all no more leaking rebuilt junk.
If you need a more complete kit they make that too. all I needed was a compressor.

Everything you see there, which also converts you to R134a. you can get more if you need it.
It took me an afternoon to install it. but I have the crimp tools, if you don't you just cut and mark them and have an A/C shop crimp them. everything you need is there.
It seems spendy until you're on about your 3rd junk rebuilt York. I would have saved money doing this earlier.
The sanden compressor is the way to go if you want your ac to work. If the compressor is currently missing, you are probably in need of some bracketry too. 725 is pricey, but what isnt anymore...
Compressor by itself is probably worth $300+ and i see the conversion brackets for $100+, so a couple hundred for hoses and dryer is not bad.
The system having been open, a good flush, new oil, new refrigerant, condenser and dryer are non-negotiable. R12 is MUCH higher than R134, so plan accordingly. Are the compressor mounting brackets still there? You can buy an adaptor bracket which will allow you to mount a Sanden compresor in place of the York, I recall mine cost about $75 but that was years back and a brand new part. .Depends on how much of an originality junkie you are - having used both types, I will never go back - the Sanden is so much lower drag, you almost cannot feel when you turn on the A/C.
Thx, going to bite the bullet and get the new complete kit to do it right. Missing the bracket, so best to get all the parts that fit at once. Rescued this 1 owner old girl from a TN farm, so only the best for her! Thx all

You will need to source one if you use the old air kit as it utilizes that bracket along with it's adapter. Also $750 isn't bad the systems i looked at were $1600+ just so i wouldn't have to deal with original wizardry...lol I may grab this kit myself as mine has AC but someone "borrowed" the bracket, compressor and all the hoses before i got it. I do have a brand new condenser and evaporator core so i can just replace everything at once.

So is this what I need new from Summit, if I can't find someone with an extra OEM:
