Gear ratio change

Hey guys! I have a '79 F150 4x4 with 35" tires and 3.50 stock gears. I would like a lower gear ratio. I do mostly street driving and some off-road (snow and mud). I live in the hills so I do climb some hills on the highway coming home and the truck is constantly down shifting. The engine is the 400 and the axles are the Dana 44 and the 9". With the tire size what do you guys recommend for a gear ratio and how much can I expect to plunk down at a shop to have both axles done? Thanks for your help

Well, this configuration will give you some extra pulling torque, but you lost some highway top speed, but It is not be a problem because your high tires...

Well, you'll want to know what RPM for a given speed you'll be running, so use this formula

MPH x GEAR RATIO x 336 / Tire Size

That will give you the RPM per MPH in 3rd gear for your C6.

You'd be running about 2500 rpm if you got 4.10s at 65 mph, which is a tad high, but it's all in how you want to run it.
