yes, my choice of the word "device" may have been somewhat misleading. with 2 tanks but only 1 line going into the fuel filter i knew there had to be something upstream of the filter, and that's what i was looking for.
as always, thanks for the feedback.
according to that diagram they do join somewhere upstream of the frame-mounted filter, and that was essentially my question. upon further investigation i do see what appears to be a small "junction block" mounted to the drivers side frame rail beside the front tank, so i guess that is the "device" i was looking for.
thanks again.
No. They do not join upstream of the filter. You aren’t looking at the diagram correctly. The lines come out of each tank and then Y together before going to the filter. From the filter the fuel passes the pressure test port, fuel injectors and the pressure regulator. The excess fuel goes back toward the tanks where the lines once again split and fuel is sent back to the tank in use.
"The lines come out of each tank and then Y together before going to the filter" ... isn't this the same as saying " they do join somewhere upstream of the frame-mounted filter" ?

yes, the 2nd and 3rd pics show the junction block i am talking about where the lines from each tank go in and only 1 line comes out and carries on to the fuel filter.

well that indeed looks upstream the filter so I would say you are correct, maybe they thought you meant at that polnt there was a switching device
