I've just done my 8th oil change on the 7.3 today using a 18" long funnel, nothing special. Works perfect and not a drop of oil spilled. Pouring from a 5 quart container.
That kind of funnel ^^^^^^ up there ^^^^^ is sometimes called a "transmission funnel" and most any auto parts store will have them... what ever they call them. I asked for a long necked funnel and the guy says "Oh you mean a transmission funnel"

What ever...
For back when auto transmissions had a dip stick and the dip stick tube was the fill point. That pretty much was their purpose...
The tough access thing on the 7.3 must be on dual alternator trucks. On mine with a single alt/batt I use a regular plastic funnel, hold it with one hand, pour with the other, plenty of room in there.

Agree. The extra alternator isn't too bad, but the 2nd battery really cozies up things on that side. I've had a transmission funnel for 20 years or so, the hard part was cleaning all the dust out of it.
A dusty engine doesn't bother me but an oil spill even small drippings.....can't have it.
Some are born mess makers.... It burns a gallon a day if you run it hard. I am not this messy with my truck but on the skidder, it leaks everywhere already

Wouldn't expect anything different from a Detroit.
Has any company’s come out with a funnel that screws into the fill port on the valve cover on the 7.3?
Not the end of the world but the 7.3 isn’t the easiest motor to fill with oil.
I have not tried it yet, But at Harbor tool & Freight, I saw an oil funnel kit that claimed it screws onto to the oil fill threads, and has multiple adapters for different models. You might want to look at that.Yes ive spilled a bit when refilling, even putting rags all over, it still gets on the engine.
