49 F-1 U-Joint

I've got my rebuilt 8BA and new clutch and original 3 speed tranny all back in my 49 F-1. It took me a while to assemble the new radiator, hoses and all of the new hose clamps. With only a small leak at the oil filter and one on a bottom radiator hose it is now running and the thermostats are opening and it is cooling nicely. I'm ready to reinstall the driveshaft and was going to put new u-joints in before I do. I was looking at one of the sites and it says the 1/2 ton stock pickups have used the same u-joints from like '47- 70. Can anyone verify this? If so I can stop at O'Reilly on the way home from work and get installed tonight or in the morning.

That's true with a caveat, not all trucks up to the later years used D44's. It is a Spicer 1310 joint as I recall, very common, but the original Ford OEM joints had a special body to clear the cup at the yoke. The cup seals the end of the splines, but sticks out enough to foul a standard U-joint. The usual solution is to smack the cup with a ball-pein hammer to reduce its crown. Easy to do when replacing the joint. Also pay attention to which way the zerk points and which part of the yoke it sits near.
