I got mine from Melvin's. I remember them being very hard to get in, ruined 1 or 2 I think and used a few old ones. I did not drill out my holes. Definitely not the quality of originals but not much choice really.
I didn't like Melvin's price; these comments have made up my mind. I'll go with junkyard parts for the few more I need, if I can find a junkyard that is.
I installed a fresh door that hadn't had the trim. I made a template from the old door ( per some clever guy on FTE, not my invention) and drilled 1/4" holes which were of course too small. I had measured the template's holes at 1/4" but on further experimentation I found I could force the shank end of a 9/32" drill into them by hand so I drilled them all out. The Ford clips went in with a satisfying snap. They're on pretty securely.
I experimented with a 5/16" hole. The Ford clip seems to hold but not very tightly.
I think the assembly line guys might have used a hammer to install the clips into the (painted) 9/32" holes.
