I am seeing some news stories claiming that the Excursion will be returning in 2023, but if that were the case, I would expect to be hearing more about it. Did recent fuel prices or other market conditions kill it off? There definitely seems to be a desire for them, but I got the impression that they killed the first one for political reasons, not a lack of buyers.
I would like to get a new vehicle next year, and the Expedition 3rd row seating looks to be a bit less than I am hoping for to haul the family and a trailer with 4wd. The leading contender currently would be a Quigley converted Chevy Van. The AWD Transit Passenger Van has virtually zero tow rating after you pile in some passengers and other gear for a cross country family romp. I haven't looked at the newest Suburbans yet, but the last 2 generations didn't have the head or shoulder room I need. If there will be a 2023 Excursion, that might be an option. Any word on those rumors?
Ford sold every excursion it made and they still have a cult following. I think what killed them was too high expectations and fuel prices. Ford thought the excursion was going to take the market away from the suburban (which there was no way that was going to happen) and when it didn't happen they pulled the plug.
There will NEVER be another BOF SuperDuty Class 2 SUV built by FORD. FORD just eliminated 3,000 jobs in MI to help with electrification of the fleet, they also split the company into an EV division and an ICE division.
IF, there really was going to be an Excursion, don't you think they would be publicizing it from the mountaintops? Like the Bronco and Mach E?

You can have nearly anything built if you have the dough.

not that deep unfortunately.
I am surprised the cost jumps up that much for the 2017+. I assume that is when the Aluminum Bodies came to be on the SD.
Were I to go that custom, I'd probably do a 6 door pick-up, and at that point, probably a F550 with the single wheel conversion and the military tires.
I was hoping for something more along the lines of an Expedition Max, on an F-250 or F-350 chassis, with SD running gear.
I agree, a 6.7 diesel might be overkill with the thing not able to use fifth wheel or goos neck trailers, but ford has two great gas motors right now that perform close enough to the 7.3 and 6.0 diesel motors that just a 7.3 gas version would do very well.
but with ford’s current corporate strategy the chance of that happening is less than that of me dating a young Ann Margaret. If it ever comes back it will probably be an electric unibody costing 100k for the pro trim that’s not available, and 130k for the xlt trim, 150k for the xlt longe range with 300 mile range.

The feds are MAKING the US automakers squeeze into the woke globalist green agenda.
We'll never see road warrior Excursions, Blazers, Broncos, and Suburbans again. Just neutered mallcrawler crap that gives them points towards an unrealistic green goal.
They might release something called an Excursion someday, but its not going to be an F450 with a triple bench SUV on top running a 6.7 10 speed. It will be crap.
