How many of you guys know what your truck weighs, I mean actually weighs, not what the sticker says. I built a high-boy to race with this year and after removing everything I could I'm still weighing in at 4720lbs. I'm the heaviest truck on the track. Looking at building an F-150 this year to get the rest of the weight off. My goal is to get down to 3800lbs. w/driver (200lbs.). Is it possible to ge that light with a late '70s 4X4? I have to keep the full factory body with no noticeable gutting. The fenders can be trimmed for tire clearance.
The drivetrain includes a 460, C-6, Np-208, 9" and Dana 44.
my 4x4 f150 weighs in at 5200 pounds with me, two full gas tanks, tool box with tools, heavy duty bumpers front and rear, and a winch. i don't think you could get that light with an f150. but maybe, i don't know
I can't run a tube chassis but I do plan to use lightweight crossmembers only where needed and the frame will be drilled to remove weight. Only a front bumper is required and it will be cut short. Aluminum spool in rear, aluminum t-case, lightweight disc brakes front and back and the lightest wheels possible. I also plan to cut out all the body braces that I can. I will leave only the supports needed. Check out the high-boy in my gallery and see how I got it down to 4700. I could get it lighter but I don't think I could get it as light as a f-150.
