Looking for a shop in area that atleast knows a littte about the 460 Ford. Ready to rebuild, just can't decide on a shop. Can't find one that even comes close to telling what I want to hear. Engine going in my 1987 F-250 4x4. Any decent truck shops please help... Thanks, Dan
I use kunkels alot, if you are in harford county the kunkels in bel air is a good place to go, I deal with gary stonebreaker alot, he knows his stuff, also another guy, I think his name is brian, he is real good with 460's also.
If you don't mind driving the long haul down to northern VA, there is a place in Woodbridge called Don's performance heads that is really good with Ford stuff. I know that he builds race motors fo alot of the guys around here. Might be worth a shot to give him a yell.
kjett, do you have Don's #. I'm getting ready to rebuild my 5.0L HO motor for my 1986 Mustang GT vert. Can't seem to get any straight answers either !!
Hilbilly, I spoke to Gary at Kunkels I was impressed. He was straight foward "NO BS" spent more time with me than anyone else did. He answered all questions I had, went through his books with me to help select misc. parts I was looking for. His prices were a little better than most. He was taking sometime off till after the 1st for vacation so I will let him rebuild the 460 for me. Plus their local. Will let you know how it turns out. Long project don't think it will be complete till April. Thanks, Dan
If your still looking Westminster Auto Parts in Carroll County has a good machine shop. Don't know how extensive they get though, but they claim to be a full service machine shop.
Thanks MatthewJ, I've spent countless hours on the phone and in person with about 8-10 machine shops. I have come to realize that only a select few know what their doing with big block Fords. I going to invest alittle money in the engine and if something goes wrong I want to be able to keep things somewhat local. I want to stay on east of 83 with a shop. I'm in Harford county and Westminster is a haul. Thanks again for your response, Dan
