Larse steering gear
I have a ‘77 Ford F-250 super cab with a leaking steering gear. I’ve already changed the seals but no luck. I’m looking at steering gears on Rockauto and seen a Larse quick ratio steering gear. Part # 1061.
has anyone tried one of these and is it worth switching to or just getting a standard replacement. I’m not sure if the input splines are the same count or if a new, different rag joint is required.
just looking for some input before I pull the trigger. Thanks in advance
Maybe cheaper here? https://www.summitracing.com/parts/lsc-1061
If I pull the trigger on a new/reman steering box, it will be for a Red Head or Blue top.

This is about the only thing you can do when the housing it worn.

Our re-manufacturing process:
- Machining out the housings and installing needle bearings
- Flame-spraying or replacing the shafts as needed
- Installing new control valves on some applications
- Custom fitting each worm & piston assembly with special ordered, precise over-sized ball bearings.
- Install every sector shaft on a lathe to check for straight and true
- polish the sealing surface to a higher polish than new.
I didn’t figure the new seals would last, but for 20 bucks it was worth a shot.
