Good day everyone ,
I am trying to finish my 49 Merc pick up by connecting the new head lights to the new switch ,at the rad support I have 6 wires looking at the diagram i see only 4 . I also bought a new dimmer switch too .
I have a extra dash and harness laid out on a work table it is the same . Is one of those 6 a ground wire heading back to ground on firewall near regulator ?
I have the new head light switch partially connected hanging down where i can see it after connecting the black supply and pulling it all the way out the power crosses fine to the red going down to dimmer but the rear double terminal doesn,t power up . I appreciate any help here . Thanks Mike itried to upload the diagram but could not as it was pdf
So I think I have it figured out now
the six wires are Hi, Low, Park, Ground back to Regulator on firewall ,Always On {think horn power } Ground wire for horn .
Now for last issue first pull on head light switch front park lights and rear tail lights . second pull headlights which switch fine when using the floor dimmer my last question when the head lights come on front parking lights go off is that correct ? Thanks Mike
On my 51 Mercury pickup parking lights stay on when the headlights are on. I converted to 12 volt, but they work the same as they did before I converted. I have never thought of it being wrong, it will be interesting to see what others say.
Thanks for your input from what I am reading sometime in the late 1960s the code was changed so the parking lights and headlights came on together in the event the headlight burnt out there would be a marker light at the front .
Seems I spent a lot of time on a problem that really wasn,t there I had forgot that things were different . Cheers Mike
