Piston ring spacers

I'm rebuilding the 226 flatsix in my '49 F-2. I'm buying all new parts for it. The top piston ring groove is worn, the worse about .027 next to the ring. I've been told in the past you could buy ring spacers, kind of an undersized ring that would take up the space. My neighbor can clean up the groove on his lathe. I'm have problems finding ring spacers. I called one place this morning, Ottos, in Maryland. His website advertised ring spacers but when I called him he seemed like an ***, very condescending. I don't have time to deal with a person like this. I can buy brand new .06 pistons for a little over $300, which I want to avoid, I've got a lot already spent on this engine.

Looking for suggestions or solutions.
