I have a question on having 2 ECMs programmed. I have a 22 450 I’m looking to have tuned. I was thinking of having a 2nd ECM flashed to the truck to keep as a back up. Would there be any issues with having 2 ECMs for the same truck?
I’m not sure, but that’s a great idea. I know there are instances when, taking a deleted truck in for let’s say, transmission service, the tech needs to flash the truck back to stock. If you had a programmer, no biggie, just dump the delete tune back in when it’s done being serviced.
You give yourself a bit of a safety net considering the difficult process of programming a deleted 3rd gen truck.
I am looking at AMDP for the tune. I was thinking of going their bench flash tune instead of the programmer tune. Would it be better to pay the extra and get the programmer?
I asked on another forum if Ford could detect that an ECM had been reflashed and was told yes. I thought about getting a five star tuner but I am concerned that Ford will void my warranty

they can detect everything. I had my Audi rolled backed on the main software to have update done to have the new version of google earth view for navigation in the instrument cluster then updated to current software version. All done by a authorized Audi tech. It went in for a recall that updated something that was part of what ever was part of ther navigation/instrument cluster and I got a call from my service tech asking if I played or had anyone play with Xxx system. Since I worked with my service tech for a few years and he works with me a lot, he was able to still get me what ever box that wouldn’t take the new updated due to being tinkered with when I did the navigation update since Audi flagged my car as not a model to have that update for the navigation update. So yeah they know when things get “flashed”. You will need a stand alone or piggy back system. For myself and Audi. It would be ABT. The sad thing is, if I lived in Germany all Audi dealers recognize ABT as being perfectly fine being on their cars since they are in partnership for racing. They don’t even think twice they honor all warranties.

Look at Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act . They would have to prove the tune caused the issue.

Magnuson-Moss covers replacement parts, does not apply to tuning that alters factory settings.
