True. Either way I’d stay away from standard products but i see what your saying. He needs to be in the 97 forums . Well from what we know it’s running and I guess mixing parts from the 95 to the 97 made things happen. But like you said didn’t really say one way or another to answer your question. I know tho first hand what I went thru.

97 F250/350 were last of the v8 trucks ford made, that were OBD I, it gets more confusing, 97 F150 first year of modular motors put in, ford didnt make F250/350 trucks in 98, in 99, they came out with OBD II modular motors, in the F250/350 trucks, his 'should ' have CCD ICM, him saying a color doesnt mean he has the wrong aftermarket, ICM, because he hasnt stated which.

Mine had wrong color/ICM also when I got it, but mine was setting code, sending me down the bang head rabbit hole

97 isn’t the same as 94 to 96. Your in the wrong forum. 94 to 96 take the black icm and use oem not aftermarket. I know this from experience. But could be 97 went with grey. You swapped a 95 grey to your 97 and by chance it runs good . Grey may be what your 97 needs. But all the reading I have done to research this all comes back to 94 to 97 take black . Ford books and many parts stores are not correct. Again yours is a 97 . No aftermarket. Oem. Pay now or pay later.

Thats another part of confusion, F150's got OBD II, in 96, but the F250/350(something to do with weight of them) got waiver's, and remained OBD I, for 96, and 97, and ford still didnt get to OBD II, until 99 in the F250/350, with modular motors.

A 1997 F-150 and light duty F-250 are a different generation of truck with modular (4.6L / 5.4L) motors but the ‘97 F-250 HD and F-350 are the same as the 1996 trucks. Unlike the 1/2T truck they were except from changing over to OBD-II.

so with that said being he should have the grey icm in a 97 250. Being it’s obd1. I know 94 to 96 f150 require black. And they where the obd2 as you stated. So him swapping the grey one from his 95 to the 97 could been his answer cuz he had a black aftermarket one in the 97. Being the 95 was f250. The things one learns.

lol, uuummm, not exactly, His 97 F250, should have the same one you/I put in ours, CCD, ICM, 97 F150's are modular motors, and went to coil packs, no distributor

No. No. No. 1994 through 1996 andthe 1997 F-250/350 require the black ICM. The exception is the ‘96 F-150 and Bronco(?) which are OBD-II.

1994 up to the end in ‘97 were all OBD-I computer systems and EEC-IV but there was a change to the ICM.

1996 was the first year for OBD2 but 1999 was the last year for LIGHT DUTY TRUCKS AND CARS to be OBD2 fully, they could be partial up to then. Ford used some of that leeway on some 1996 obs, we have seen a guy with a Partial OBD2 compliant truck, I think he had a 5.8 , cant remember.

2004 was the last year for OBD2 to be mandatory in full in HEAVY DUTY -LIGHT DUTY trucks <9600 gvw

so my dads f350 v10 is a partial OBD2 compliant truck
