I'm at a decision point. I want an upgraded axle in my highboy. I will be upgrading to a power steering gear and getting away from the oem setup. Leaning towards the 2005 superduty steering gear with the kit from battleborn brakes.
For the axle I am undecided. I do want a crossover steering. I have a 79 f250 dana 44 in a parts truck. It would need a complete overhaul and r&p gear change. I have also considered the 2005-08 super duty axle with the kit from battleborn. Downsides to that is the wider stance and expense to keep my old 5 slot aluminum wheels. Dana 44 vs dana 60 is not an issue, I won't be mudding this thing.
Who has done one or the other and how would you do it again?
I ended up putting an EPAS in my 72 f250 4x4. I cant say how great it is yet because I have to run the power to it still. Everything else is wired up. Just need to finish it and test it. Instead of going with steerman cycle or another kit, I found mine in the JY. I do like not having the pump/reservoir, hoses and belt in the engine compartment. Here is an unfinished pic.
You would definitely need to upgrade you charging system though if you havent already.

Can you elaborate (or point to a thread) on how you did this? What was the donor vehicle? How did you adapt the steering shaft? This seems like a cool option and potentially cheaper than the Benchworks kit.
1Browski, I've been following your build, watching and waiting to see how your esteering works. It sure does look good.
I'm afraid I gave my post the wrong title. It should be:
highboy front axle upgrade.
I'm really hoping to get some opinions on the axle / suspension upgrade. 79 dana 44 vs 2005 superduty coils and dana 60. Main benefit is looking for disk brakes, ease of future parts replacement. Ease of installation. I think all around its looking more and more like the 79 dana 44 is going to be the winner in my case. If I get a passenger side flat top Reid racing knuckle, that should take care of the crossover drag link.
Not to hijack the thread, I will say that there is no build thread that I have ever found. There is another member that has done this swap and I cant think of the name off hand. I ended up looking at pics of kits installed and made it myself. I will PM some info and I will do a build on how I set it up soon.
