Smile New FTE Member: Ward Gunter, Vero Beach, Florida

Hello and thank you for allowing me to join FTE.

My name is Ward Gunter and I live in Vero Beach, Florida.

I have been married for 20 years and have a 16 year old daughter and 13 year old son.

I have used the site in the past to search for answers but have never joined.

I am a noob, I will try to follow the rules, and not be a pest.

I was born in 1975 and my love of Ford trucks came from my father who owned a 1979 Ford F250 Ranger with a 400M.

He ran 9.00-16 military tires and the truck had true dual exhaust and a manual 4 speed.

It was root beer and beige and I can still smell the enamel paint.

I have had several trucks in magazines, January 2013 FourWheeler; Readers Rebuilds and 4X4 Barn Finds and Truckin Mag.

I am in the process of building a 1979 Ford Single Cab Long Bed.

I have a 1978 Dana 60 Snowfighter Front and I am going to use a Sterling 10.25 in the rear. Both axles will be set up with big disc brakes.

I have a 429 Thunderjet that came out of a late 70s T-Bird that Eddie Miller from TheEngineWorks is building with all forged internals.

Eddie Miller owns the world's fastest naturally aspirated streetcar & he has won drag week multiple times.

So the 429 ought to be stout, we are targeting 1 HP per Cubic inch without force induction. I do have a 671 blower I could strap atop.

I am going with 4.56 gears and plan on running a 40 inch tire.

Too bad 17-40 ground hawgs are no longer an option.

I am in the process of putting together the rolling chassis and I have got to replace the frame cross members.

Thus, why I joined the forum.

Hopefully once I have been vetted, I can generate a post or search through classified for the two crossmembers.

The previous owner welded a plate across the frame for ladder bars and it trapped mud and the cross members and frame rusted.

I am going to fish-plate the frame but I really would like to purchase the cross members so I can save time fabricating new ones.

Any help would be appreciated from the FTE God's.

Welcome to FTE. Post your picture and needs in the Older, Classic and Antique Trucks section. That's where you'll find the people who know about your truck and where to find parts for them.

Don't forget to join the Florida State Chapter too.
