Our 52 F8 has the 317 Yblock. We had some issues and had an engine from a 1960 F800. Looks to be an identical engine. It is a 332 according to the air cleaner decal. What is the difference in these engines besides the cu.in.? I ask because the information on truck applications seems incomplete compared to car counterparts.

True about more info easily available for car motors than truck motors.
You can't go by the decal on an air cleaner. It is easily interchanged.
And Welcome to FTE the best Ford truck forum on the World wide Web! Post a picture of your big 52. More knowledgeable guys than me will chime in soon to help you.
317 is said to be a car (Lincoln of course) engine, where the 279,302 & 332 were truck engines. I'm not sure what the internal differences are car vs. truck. Lower compression, sodium cooled valves, maybe some other stuff.
The links below conflict regarding the 317 as a truck and car offering. A decode of you VIN and warranty tag could tell the tale as to your OEM engine.
But I would bet that 332 will jump right in there. I don't know anything about these other than these links and the usual comments about how hard it is to find parts, countered by the occasional claim that it's not hard, etc.
There were 2 series of heavy duty Y blocks, early '52-'55(279-317) and later '56-'63(302-332). The later were new and improved with more heavier duty features. Note green block and dark green valve covers.
