I'm working on installing a GM 12si alternator in place of the original generator on my '52 F3, went to the local (50 min away) alternator repair shop to see if he could repair the one I had, turns out something was loose inside causing zero output.... we decided to convert it to a one wire set-up which meant he needed to take it apart, so he says come on back, "let's see what we can do". It was like steeping into 1975, this guy was OLD SKOOL! super nice fella and believe it or not (i couldn't) knew EXACTLY where everything was! Oh, he hit me hard with the $$$$ $40!

There was an older Italian guy in my town that had an airu electric shop. He rebuilt the starter and generator on my 54 back in 1999. And tested the starter several years later. He also ade 6 volt cables for me. He retired and sold it to the guy that worked for him . This guy didn't keep regular hours. He'd open at 4:00 AM and close at 1:00 or 2:00. He soon closed, sold the building and did work at home, which was out in the boondocks in the next county.
I'm lucky, there's a busy shop about 15 miles from me run by a couple of younger guys, late 40s, who still do a good job for a decent price. Rebuilt my youngest son's generator from 6 volt to 12 for $45. My old kid, the farmer, had an alternator go out on one of his tractors, the implement dealer wanted $400 for a new one plus a $100 service fee. It was a "special" alternator, made specifically for the big tractor, no other alternator would work. I took it to the shop, nothing special and $55 and five hours later it was rebuilt. Nothing special about it. That was three years ago and the alternator is still charging. Same place had a starter for my forklift for $55 when the forklift place wanted over $150 and had to special order it because "that's one old unit".
