I am building a completely custom 78 F100 with a 5.9 Cummins mated to a ZF6 speed. I am trying to figure out the best path to connect the hydraulic clutch and eliminate the clutch linkage. The cab I have was originally an automatic, so I have to buy a set of pedals anyway. I will be using the super duty master/slave cylinder assembly, along with the super duty brake booster and brake master cylinder.
My question is which pedal assembly to use, obviously the 70s F-series pedals would be the simplest to fit into the cab, that just leaves connecting the pedal to the master cylinder, has anyone done this? I could install the set out of the 90s F-series, but those were designed with the column going over the pedal assembly, as opposed to under like the 70s trucks. Or, I could install the super duty clutch pedal, which is actually a separate assembly. Only issue I see is the master cylinder would come out somewhere under the brake booster.
I know people have done this conversion, or at least similar with the ZF5, would just like to hear what anyone else has done, and the pros/cons they have with it.
Might check to see if someone makes a kit for your swap.
I've looked at couple options, most of witch seems to be geared towards buggies or hot rods, I could probably make them work, but I'm not ready to do that yet, for a couple reason. First, I want to stick to parts that are "off-the-shelf", more or less, in case something breaks on me down the road. Custom parts can be hard to get and hard to find, and if I have learned anything from the state of the world, it's not to count on being able to find what you need, if I narrow my search, it gets even harder. Second, I know people have done this kind of swap before and I really just want to pick other people's brain. Third, I'm not stuck, I'm just at an intersection trying to decide which way to go.
And finally.......By God, I have a welder and duct tape, I'll make it work!!!
