Econoline Pick up

I'm still dreaming of owning a basically stock Econoline. Wondering if,, with the stock rear end, what the "normal" cruising speed would be. I know brakes, tires and son on all have a bearing on this, on a 55 mph road I have no doubts, I'm thinking about occasionaly being on a 65 Mph freeway whether I'd be blocking traffic.

Thanks,

Thanks,
My '65 Pup has the stock 3.50 rear and had a 170 3 spd when I got it. The engine had issues and it did 70 on the highway with no problem, I swapped in a 200 and I've been driving it dailey for half a year and it cruises at 65 with traffic no problem. the only thing I need to improve is the steering box has a bit of play, that's next on my agenda. They alsoo have cooling system hurdles in the summer that are minor that I've been playing with recently.

Cruising Speed

My 61 is bone stock with the 140ci engine, 3 spd, and 3.5 rear end.

It’ll cruise at 55 all day long, but sounds happier at 50. I’ve hit 70 a couple of times. My steering and suspension are either new or in good shape, and it drives great. The stock brakes are fine. I could throw someone through the windshield if they weren’t buckled up.

I don’t think I’d consider more than short runs above 60. The little 6 is wound up pretty tight at that speed. If you had the 3.00 rear end of course that would change the equation.

That confirms what I thought. I still want one. My freeway trips are few and far between. Thanks.

I’ve got a 63 with the 144 and stock rear end. 65 mph is no problem but I have never traveled for many hrs at that speed.
I do 65 and 70 for 45 mins with no issue other than the cab gets pretty warm!

Thanks, I had forgotten how warm the cab could get. I haven't ridden in one since I was about 11 or 12. Dad had a folding boat seat (n o seat belt) on the engine cover. I rode there and my sister rode on Mom's lap. Dad's arm in a sudden stop was stronger than a seat belt!
