Vets Day

Yeah! I know! here I go again!

A soldier lay fallen and gravely wounded. Against his officers’ orders, the sergeant crawled forward at great risk to himself, and dragged his fallen comrade back to the foxhole. Both were mortally wounded. The officer, furious at the sergeant for disobeying his order yelled “ Now look! I’ve lost you both! It wasn’t worth it!” “Yes it was Sir” the sergeant said. “ For when I reached him he said, ‘Jim… I knew you would come".

To all my lost Brothers and my Brothers still fighting the fight, worry not, not one of us has ever fought nor died in vain. We will once again, together, slip quietly through the sky on a dark and moonless night. We will rendezvous with destiney once more.

Hats off and a big salute to all Vets!

Veteran's Day is the time of the year, everyone else remembers all my friends, and comrades, home, or fallen. I remember them all, daily, sometimes with humor, often with sadness.
War is a pointless pastime, nobody ever wins; those who serve loose lives, loves and years to the execution of war, and do so willingly, without complaint. (unless you listen in the messdeck.. ) Thank You for your service, guys, and Thank You for your sacrifice.

We are the unknown, doing the impossible, for the ungrateful, with nothing.

That is so true. The last years of my service were taken up being very much the unknown, fighting for the very ungrateful.

Yeah me too Theo.. the last years were the hardest, seemed it was all for nothing, but then again I thought back... and you know what? NO WAY! I'd do it again, same deal.

Theo said it.
All I could possibly add to that would be:

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

But that would get annoying pretty darned quickly. ()

Tomorrow morning I'm going to the local Junior high school to help put on a Veterans Day program. I was told (ordered) to dress in my camo fatigues and bring my rifle. I do have permission from the principal to bring the gun to school. Now, do I take the Colt SP1 or a M1A??? Either one is period correct. I am supposed to represent the Nam vets. I'm leaning toward the M1A as it's got a scope and all. If I could find a white feather, I'd stick it in my hat to commemorate Hathcock. I'm not a vet and never represent myself as such, I do this in respect for those that served. I'm proud to take time out of my schedule for this program.

My Dad served in Korea.

He and his neighbour lied about their age and enlisted in the Canadian forces when they got out of high school....

My Dad's father served in the Canadian forces in the 2nd World War....he didn't come home....

My Mom's father served in the RAF in the 2nd World War....he didn't make it back to England....

I am greatfull to everyone who served, so that I have never been called upon to do so....

I never met either of my Grandfathers and my Dad passed away almost 2 years ago.....

On Nov 11, I will remember all three men and all the grandfathers, fathers, sons, brothers and husbands who fought the good fight so that I am able to post this here for the world to see.....

Glenn
