Coolant checker

When I had my 99 I had test strips and additives, with the 2012 I didn't really pay it much attention since I didn't drive it much, only on trips. I am now getting a 2019 F-450 for my tow vehicle and daily driver, and since it is in excellent condition, I want it to stay that way, so what do I use to check the coolant, and are there additives like on the 99? This stuff has changed so much since then.

Note, Not an oil thread! LOL I am well versed on THAT subject!

The coolants used in the 2019 and later trucks no longer require any type of testing. This may have started earlier, but I have a 2019 and I know for certain that coolant testing is not required. Likewise no need to worry about additive packages.

Thats what I thought, but wasn't 100% sure. There are test strips for the 2012 coolant, but haven't bothered to check for what years.

nothing with the newer coolant. Drive it and change it according to the manual.

F-250 - F-550 with build dates from 2011 up to July 8, 2018 had orange coolant that required testing.

F-250 - F-550 with build dates of July 9, 2018 and up use yellow coolant that does not require testing.

Ford has discontinued the orange coolant, some older trucks could have been switched over to the newer yellow coolant. I had mine flushed and filled with yellow the last time it was at the dealer.

I would inspect the color of the coolant as well. If it's not a pure yellow color, I would have it changed. Sometimes the quick lube stores will top off the coolant if its low and you have to wonder if they're topping off with the correct compatible coolant type.
