Early 99 Coolant Options after replacing cups
I had replaced the cups last year and used the Loctite 620 sealant on the engine I just installed.
I re-used the green coolant but want to flush and install new once I verify everything is working OK.
I use the truck for Hot Shot trucking so it gets a good workout every day towing a 30' gooseneck trailer that weighs 6600 Lbs. empty with maximum 8,000 - 8,500 Lbs. of cargo.
I need to know if it is safe to run an ELC coolant. I know there are threads from 2010 on here, but what is currently available and best for me to use.
I agree on the ELC but I'd skip the filter. The green coolant drops precipitants that need filtering, but ELC does not. Switching from green to ELC requires a complete flush of the coolant system, but after that you're golden.
Gold coolant is also an option, does not drop much in the way of precipitants so again you can skip the filter. Costs less than ELC. But if you're flushing enough to run gold you might as well run ELC.
Since ELC is more expensive than green or gold I'd R&R the water pump and hoses at the same time. No sense spending more for 500k coolant if the other parts fail 90k down the road.
