New to 5th wheels - need tips

So After a lot of deliberation, I’ve settled on a Shasta Phoenix 355FBX. I’ve had travel trailers for the last 12 years. This will be my first 5ver. I’m having the Reese Goosebox 16k installed as it will be easiest since my other trailers (horse, equipment) are also gooseneck. (So towing wise I’m good, it’s more around setup, etc)

What else should I be thinking about when switching to the new platform?

For instance, I already have X-chocks, so those should transfer.

Additional stabilizers needed? (Has 4 point elec leveling system)

This will have 2 sewer outlets. Should they just be Y connected together?

Thanks!

I started this thread a while back when I got my first 5W. Might have some useful info for you…

We started cross country traveling with a 32' travel trailer. The furthest we towed it was from the Atlantic Ocean in GA to the water at Seattle WA. We moved up to a 5th wheel and I was skeptical about the ease of towing a 5th wheel.

I am 100% a believer now and will never, never, ever go back to a travel trailer.

Check your tires for a good set. I recommend Goodyear Endurance or Sailun S637.

Keep a note pad and when you identify something that needs fixed, altered, modified, upgraded or replaced, write it down.

The 5th wheel will back up a bit differently, but take your time and you will do great.

A Y- connector is not required, but might be nice if you are going to be on full hook ups for a while.

Have fun! Enjoy it!

Watch your tire wear in the beginning. You may need an alignment job on the trailer if you see unusual wear.

I sold my TT and bought a 5er last year.

SO much nicer in everyway.

Focus on the most likely things that will put you on the side of the road

I am adamantly against being on the side of the road with any type of problem. I 100% refuse to change a tire on the road. I'll drive on rims before I'll risk my life for a tire.

Therefore I bought a TST Truck aftermarket tire pressure monitoring system for all tires, truck and trailer.

I then bought the highest load rated wheels I could find, which were Raceline RCL 935 B Defender TRs.

I then mounted the highest load rated tires I could obtain, which were Carlisle CSL 16 which are G rated, 14 ply, 81 mph rated M, all steel body tires, which were the highest load rated tire in the Carlisle RV trailer line. (I would have bought Sailun tires but they had a major kaboom quality control problem and ended up recalling a whole bunch of tires that were made in their vietnam factory)

The wheels and tires from the factory are pure garbage, so if you start here, you're addressing the most likely issue you'll face that will stop you in the road
