My friend has a 02 edge with a 4.0. He wants to take his 2 rear cats out and replace it with a 2.5in piping thats the same size as his exhaust.
What are the benefits? Will he have a cel? The 02 sensor isn't connected to any of the rear cats? He has all bolt-on's exhaust, header, intake, 75mm maf, chip. He's getting a supercharger from Explorer Express when it comes out.
I don't think you can remove the cats on these trucks cause there is an O2 sensor between them or behind them. He'll probably get a CEL if he does remove them. Not to mention his truck will probably run like crap. These trucks are designed to run with the backpressure provided by the cats and mufflers for efficiency. I have heard that if you take the cats off, the engine will run like crap. The best thing to do would be to replace them with some aftermarket high-flow cats.
He's not worried about a fine, they don't have IM checks here. Why would he have a cel? The o2 sensor isn't connected to any of the cats? Wouldn't you need a less restricted exhaust with a supercharger?
Where are the o2 sensors located at? I only see 1 and thats between the pre heaters and the first of last 2 cats. I don't see any thing connected anywhere else.
