Anyone into RC nitro trucks? I just got a T-maxx from Traxxas. That thing is so much fun, flies too (40+ mph). I ran about 4 tanks of gas through it before I ran into a tree stump in my yard. I bent 2 lower suspension pins, lost a spring retainer, broke the draglink and broke the bellcrank (aka pitman arm).
I also have a Nitro Vee RC boat, havn't broken that yet hehe.
ive got an nitro r/c boat too. flat bottom with the v shape in the front like the racing boats. its been so long since ive messed with it (a few yrs) so i cant remember the name of it. its got an air prop instead of one thats in the water. omg that thing flies and can turn on a dime...litterally. its sooooo much fun, now that u reminded me of it i think im gonna go out tomorrow and have some fun. thanks lol
i have a nitro stampeed that i used prob 40x since i got it 2 years ago. it freakin eats fuel like nothing, i run it up and down the road and its empty. but yes its pretty fun to say the least. thing moves like all hell. i'll have to agree they need a ford suspension on those things, i broke the front suspension a bunch of times and lost endless nuts and screws.
I "tried" to fly a plane, first time, it was running too rich, and fouled the glow plug, shut off in mid air, and one of the landing wheels fell off of it, and it landed in some soft brush and such. Next time, i took it off, flew it for a while, then nose dived into a corn field. Yeah, that messed it up pretty good too. its now rebuilt and ready to fly again, but i think i'm gonn wait for someone to teach me. This isnt one of those ball park flyers either, the wing span on its like 5 feet. i've always wanted to get a 4x4 little nitro modle truck, and play in the snow with it
I had a T-maxx. The original version. I ran about 5 gallons of fuel through it before I completely rebuilt it. I got a bigger chassis and put on 2 TRX .15's with the electric starts. Everything was new and modified but the tranny. First tank of as on break in and the tranny let go. I never even got on it. It was already missing some teeth from before and let me know it then. Haven't touched it for about a year.
I have a Stampede and I've only ran it maybe 10 times and i have to buy a new clutch, all the teeth are worn off. I also have to buy a set of new exhaust tips because I flipped it on pavement and it tore one of them off. It'll basically take $20 to get it operational again.
The boy has a Savage 21 ... mean muyah fayuh Nitro truck! Added reverse pkg. and a trick exhaust to it --- it's a screamer.
Lots of fun ... expensive too. This truck has been indestructible so far and that says a lot when my Cameron is playing.
Had fuel issues --- cr**py tank design. Re-routed the fuel line, made a big difference.
i've had a T-Maxx for aobut 3 years now. it's got a few modifications. bought a new RB Concepts racing engine for it, but haven't put it on yet, it's been over a year since the last time i drove it.
i also have HPI on-road car, but i blew the gears and haven't fixed it in a long time.
I have a couple trucks and a few boats. Nitro has proven itself to me to be too quirky. I spend much more time with electric power lately. If I were more proficient, I would probably feel differently. Right now, my favorite and most used RC vehicle is a boat that has a 775 electric motor and runs on 12 cells wired in series. It will outrun a lot of nitro boats, including the Traxxas Nitro Vee, albeit not for the long runs you can get from nitro. Since my wife had our baby, I am sorry to say that I have neglected my RC stuff, but maybe this thread will get me motivated. Thanks MustangGT221!!
yeah I broke it in through the 4 tankfulls. My boat goes about 20 mph to 23 on a good day. With a motor swap and a new prop I can get it over 40. My T-maxx is the newer version with the TRX 2.5. Great motor, my nitro vee has the TRX .15 and it was a pain in the butt to break in (probably more because it's a boat). I'm waiting for a new prop for the boat, and I'll go take that out before the water freezes. Tomorrow I'm going to try and get the parts for the truck so I can run that again.
I've got a Tmaxx as well, the first version with the TRX .15 engine(2+gallons of fuel). Right now, it needs a new engine as the original had the crank pin break off and my replacement doesn't run too well. Does anyone know if the new TRX 2.5 will bolt in inplace of the .15 without major mods? Otherwise I think I'll get a Megatech .16, it's inexpensive and bolts in without mods (can even make the easy-start work) I have replaced the wheels, tires and A-arms on mine with lighter, stronger aftermarket stuff. I've broken 3 rear skidplates (very large jumps) and one front steering knuckle. It is a very tough truck that can take a lot of hard use.
If anyone is interested in RC stuff, you can go to www.rcuniverse.com
It's a really good rc site and has as much ifo on rc as this site does on ford trucks.
