Hi, first timer here. I pulled over on the side of a Texas highway after a hot coolant warning. Popped the hood and saw that one of the flexible hoses that goes from the engine to the firewall was ruptured possibly due to not being fastened in and rubbing against some stuff. Some research and intuition told me that it’s a heater hose that busted. Not sure if it’s the inlet or the outlet. Since I’m 100 miles from anywhere, I’m wondering if I can use the good hose and close the circuit on the engine to limp back home after topping it off with water.
Generally a heater hose is fairly generic. Any decent auto parts store should be able to provide you with a suitable hose cut to length. I would be cautious about bending an old hose into a loop like that, you'll get a feel for how flexible the remaining hose is. If you go that route and make it home I would replace both hoses.
Thanks all. After the hose got cool enough to touch I saw that the split was within 2 inches of the end so I just cut it and reattached. Got lucky this time.
