I have a 1991 E350 w/ a 351W. I believe there is supposed to be a single O2 sensor on the exhaust cross-over from driver side to passenger side. It appears this has been deleted on my rig by PO.
I found the EGR system is also plugged, so no exhaust gas is being re-circulated. The evap solenoid isn't connected either.
With that said, am I correct to believe the implication here is that the system will never get into closed loop and my MPG will suffer? Or is it worse than that?
I never did get any CEL while driving it.
Where is the connector for the O2 sensor? I want to inspect the wiring to confirm it hasn't been tampered with.
The O2 sensor bung is usually within inches of where the left and right pipes come together before the catalytic converter. The factory style sensor looks to have a couple of feet of pigtail so that’s a considerable search area. Hopefully they left the connector visible. You’ll need a better reference if they cut the wires and taped up the harness. I think the ECU in those vans is in the passenger footwell. Wherever it is, trace the harness and branches from the ECU. Something has to branch towards the passenger side of the transmission or look taped up post factory.
Does the check engine light come on when you turn the key to on? I’d remove the bulb if I removed the O2 sensor.

Thanks. I'll start at the ECM. I looked around today and saw no sign of the old wires.
