I'll be puttin a new Sony MP3 player in my 97 Mazda. I've been told that I could make a panel to install the sterio cleanly, is this true?
I have searched, but didn't see an answer to this Question.
Are there any good ideas that I sould do to make sure this goes through smoothly.
you can go to any stereo shop to get a dash kit and wire harness
to install your deck.
most any auto part store should sell the key tools you need to easily remove the fact head unit
not a big job-- good luck!
There are stereo installation kits at many bestbuy's circuit city, auto parts Walmart etc..
With the larger size of the factory radio and most aftermarkets being a traditional size, the kit has a sort of pocket above or below that new stereo. There are also wire harness kits so that you do not have to cut and connect the new radio to exisiting factory speaker wiring as well as the power (hott,run/acc).
Also with the rangers/b-series you can pull the bezel off by removing the two screws above the hvac control panel and pop the bezel off. There may be a couple metal tags bent out to hold the stereo in place (two on top, two on bottom, maybe one on each side), just bend them back and the radio will slide out. Pop the bezel back in place and you should have enough room to work.
You'll have to wire a new harness--Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. carries them, also depending on the stereo that you are replacing it with as the stereos in our trucks are 1.5 DIN You'll need filler bracket (available at the same places)
If this is the first one you've done the illustration for the harness should be in the new stereo instructions. The wires should be marked in the truck, also if you go to GenerationEdge.com they will have a lot of useful information in their audio forum.
The mounting kit is the way to go to make it look clean.
I just put in a Kenwood unit, 4 Kenwood speakers and a powered sub. Sounds good in that little cab.
Plus if your gonna spend all that money on the radio, keep in mind that the stuff you can't see is just as important, wiring, fuses, looms, mounting etc..
