Any suggestions for front and rear 4wd shocks? I am working on an '78 f-250 and am in need for some new ones. I've looked at Monroe, Skyjacker and a few more. Whatever is a good ride.

Above is a Bilstein 5125 part # 33-230351 pic and part # is from a fellow FTE member. And thanks to the same FTE member we have the rear shocks too.

Blistein 5100 rear #18-335552

But remember that you need lower eyelet and top stud to mount them on the rear. So check your part numbers and shock tech/measurements.

Thanks for the info. I will consider it when I have the money. Currently I am hovering around $250 for the budget.

can’t see that front one pictured but as advertised looks like lower eyelet, bolt on would be stud upper and lower.

Lifted stud-stud rough country is all I could find. Otherwise, the cheapest I can find have always been good enough for me, leaf’s are doing the work a dirt cheap oil filled shock absorbs fine. Want a better ride get some better springs.

Monroe Gas Magnums work well.

34909 front @ $32.79 each More Information for MONROE 34909 (rockauto.com)

34901 rear @ $35.79 each More Information for MONROE 34901 (rockauto.com)

Bought my last set in the early '90s, no complaints yet.

Ok thanks. I will look into rancho. The Skyjacker max seemed nice, although Monroe is hard to beat in price.

I know that the front has upper and lower studs, but I will have to check the rear. From what is going on today, I wouldn't be surprised if you can't find those Bilstein shocks in stud to stud.

4wd 1978 F250 rear shock is threaded stud on top and eyelet/bolt on bottom.

I know you said Blistein is out of the budget range. SO get the front now and then the rear later on.

Yes, the rear is top stud, bottom bolt.
Best case scenario, I would like to change all four shocks while I have the bed off.
The Bilstein is gas charged. does it ride like oil filled? From my understanding, gas shocks are stiffer with leaf springs.
The front top end chassis mount is different from the pic above, although it is still a stud to stud shock mount. It looks to be cut for clearance issues in the pic.
I found that Skyjacker doesn't carry a stud to stud front shock for the hydro or max series. Rancho does carry front and rear shocks with the correct mounting. Rancho has two series to choose from, RS9000XL and the RS5000X. The RS9000XL series only has front shocks in a 1.5in lift instead of stock. Is it still possible to mount it at stock height?
From the looks of it. Rancho is promising. Is there a series that you would recommend?

I have ran RS5000's before, worked fine. I know a person that ran the adjustable RS9000XL's on a lifted 4WD Super Duty CC, worked fine.

Im aware your talking about an F250....
I used and abused some Rancho's when I had my 79 F150....the RS5000s are great....the 9000s are better. They seemed to work well with the Rancho coil springs and all urethane bushings in the front end. I think the biggest difference was getting rid of all the crappy rubber bushings. The difference was amazing. I'd spring for the Rancho stuff.

Thank you. Are you talking about the urethane bushings in the eyelet mount or the bottom out stoppers? Yes, it is a '78 f-250. Leafs all around.
