Please help!! I am putting on slotted and crossdrilled rotors that i ordered from Rock Auto and the lugs dont fit the new wheels. The new hubs are on, but the lugs wont go on the wheels. Whay do i do? Rock auto doesnt have a custom service number. Has anyone done this job? What size thread pattern are the new studs? If you know a solution.
This little bit below is why I will never order from Rockauto.
"RockAuto is a completely online company. We do not have a customer service phone number to provide assistance over the phone. All of our customer
service resources are available 24/7 online! Online self-service ensures consistent quality and keeps our prices low for you!"
As to what is going on in your case, I would look for info on the year that Ford changed to Hub Centric and see what the size should
be for the center support area of the hub.
Here is one where they are talking about it. I don't think it applies in your case but it's a start in finding the info.
Also, I would remove the phone number. You open yourself to a lot of things with the number out there.
I have Powerstop rotors AR8181XR, and AR8181XL for front left and right. Found out the lugs are 9/16-18. I bought some from Orielly Auto Parts, but the flange washer is WAY to big to let my center caps fit properly so they are only temporary, plus for 16 they were just shy of $200. What a rip off!
So now im searching for the proper lugs. Anyone know of anything?
It doesn't sound right that they would be 9/16-18, everything Ford is metric. But the 8181 rotors are for 2003 to 2005 Excursions, so those lugs would be appropriate, M14-1.50 I believe. Earlier lugs were M14-2.00 from memory. 8573 are for the '99-02.

It might not sound right, but thats what they are! Im calling Powerstop in the morning to get to the bottom of this. I have lugs on the wheels on it now, but need the proper ones with the 1.18" flange washer on them, not the monster i got now. Original on left, new lug on right.
Sean, I don't know. Every time we ever needed lug nuts at work, I'd get them from a dealer.
But there is nothing that Ford has engineered since the mid 70's that's not metric. If Powerstop put in imperial studs, they have a manufacturing issue.

I called Powerstop this morning and talked to their tech support. The guy said they would replace my new rotor/hubs free of charge. I had to send them an email with my order from Rockauto. Didnt seem to hard to do, and they didnt bulk at it. Lets see if they actually come through now? The verified on the phone they are supposed to be M14 1.5. The guy didnt doubt me what I have are 9/16 18. I can't be the only person to get these like this, so id say it is/was an internal issue. Hopefully they come through, or thats my last set of anything from Powerstop. Im probably done buying from Rock Auto now.
For some reason, I kept thinking you had a 2002 Excursion, and ordered the wrong year rotors. Sorry about that.
So a Power Stop FU. I don't buy Power Stop products, but I order often from Rock Auto still. The lack of communication can be an issue, but I've never had an issue not being able to return things.
I ran into a similar issues a while back where the brake calipers in the boxes were for a different vehicle. Similar, but different. The part numbers were correct, but a manufacturer screw up. They took them back, refunded shipping both ways.
Jack, as the brake expert what's your opinion on drilled & slotted rotors? It's been about 10-years ago so my memory is a little vague, I recall reading a bunch of articles about how the cross-drilling can actually cause more harm than good due to stress concentrations and cracking. But the best setup is a properly vented rotor design for keeping the rotor temps in check. Is that valid or is my memory bad?
