1966 F100 - Ignition Switch Replacement

I replaced my ignition switch but now there is no response when I turn the key (lights and indicators won't turn on either).

The battery is fine - I put jumper cables on and let it charge for about 20 minutes - nothing.

I reassembled the switch exactly (I believe) the way it was.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to FTE, always go back to what you last did when you have problems... odds are your wiring is off, or you popped a fuze in the process.

Check your battery V at batt. and at fuses, you should have batt. voltage on the main lug on the switch.

I did not remove the battery (I know - not smart). The folks at Advance said that could have ruined several things. So I got some fuses and will try that first.

I figured you didn't, not gonna chew ya on it, you learned from it get a good MM so you can check your voltages and your fuses also.

Don't overlook the fact that all those replacement switches are made where English isn't their first language and can be junk right out of the box. I would remove it and check the yellow wire it should have 12V all the time there is no fuse. If there is a chance you grounded out something look on the inner fender near the junction block someone may have added a fuse, there. The switch will work just fine hanging by the wires until you sort it out. If the pig tail is bad, you can get replacements. X1000 Took me a long time to stop doubting myself and accept it. Countless times have backtracked and just wouldn't believe that a "new" part could be at fault. Thought it had to be me.
Unfortunately, not limited to just car parts. Most replacement parts are junk nowadays. For me, whenever possible, NOS or used parts. If it has to be new, it gets tested before installed if possible. If it can't be tested and doesn't correct the problem it gets returned. More often than not it's the part, not my troubleshooting.
