I’ve been a long time Excursion fan, but never owned one. Finally, this past Tuesday, I pulled the trigger on a really clean 2004. It’s a bulletproofed 6.0 XLT 2WD. I would have loved to have a 4WD, but in Southern MD, it’s not necessary. Out of the dozens of 4x4 vehicles I’ve owned here, I can count on one hand how many times I actually used it for other than goofing off in the snow. So, I guess you can say I settled, but I’m perfectly fine with that! Haha
Body has 229k, but the neat thing about this particular truck is, it was owned by Chaparral down in GA as their executive limo for potential clients (apparently from PO). Best part is, it got a complete brand new Ford short block back in 2016 and completely bulletproofed at the same time with all kinds of new important parts. Less than 75k on it since then! All receipts included from Chaparral. Over $18k just in the engine!
PO bought it from them back in 2020 and barely drove it. He just put a couple thousand into it and it’s just so awesome. I’ve barely had time to play with it, but I’m excited to have this beast and I’ve got some sweet plans for it.
I’ll post the pics from the ad, but once I can wash it up and take some good photos, I’ll update it.
I’m looking for a set of the 20” black mesh style wheels off of a new F-Series truck if anyone is selling some for a good price near MD!!!
That's a beautiful truck that got some seriously love! That amsoil filter is proof positive that someone wanted to keep that engine in great shape. I'm getting one for mine once I get the engine back from the machine shop.

Thanks! Yes, exactly…you can see the things replaced with quality parts and that’s what sealed the deal for me. Well, the killer price too! Lol
Nice looking truck. I prefer the XLT version without the old leather seats.
VANavyman - Thanks! I just saw your post about your Black Excursion. Looks awesome! Sorry to hear you sold it! Nice profit though I bet. Those are the exact wheels I want on mine, but the black ones. I like the cloth seats as well. The only leather I would want in this would be the King Ranch seats, cause who doesn’t want those!
while all my ex’s have been 4x4 i have been trying to find a 7.3 rwd for years, they have their quirks but still super cool.
on the 6.0, enjoy the new engine but let the 18k spent be the cautionary tale.
my brand new 6.0 chewed through $35k
very quickly before ford cut their losses and bought it back. 10k trips to the mechanic are a normal occurrence for the 6.0
my rule is don’t put more money in a 6.0 toy than i am willing to walk away from. And i say toy because I don’t consider them for primary transportation,
Mine was 4WD so not sure how they would fit your 2WD (you might have to get a couple inch lift, but this is not my area). I ended up cutting the 4-5" from bottom of the cardboard on the wheelwell on each side. I saw a couple sets of the all back and liked them a lot, but with my black truck went with the black and chrome.
Definitely keep up the maintenance, and keep a close eye on that 6.0 functionally, the motto regarding 6.0's is they run more on replacement parts than they do on fuel, and its not a joke.
Hopefully you get lucky and its bulletproofed well enough its reliable, but my buddy just sold his 6.0 F250 last week, it blew its 3rd turbo in the last 3 years, he has had it, sold it with the blown turbo to someone else who can sink money into it.
He had done the injectors, hpop and all kind of things trying to solve its problems, but he has finally thrown in the towel, i think he is looking for a good 6.7 now, for the moment he is without a truck.
Aw man, a lot of hate for the 6.0. I will take the warnings with a grain of salt though. Not in a disrespectful way. I just know all different manufacturers and vehicles and motors and transmissions ALL have their quirks and downfalls and the 6.0 is no exception. I didn’t go into this without any knowledge of the 6.0 and it’s history. I had a Duraburb with the rockers rusting out from underneath me. Loved the truck after I dumped $5k into the drivetrain. Eventually sold it because I didn’t want to deal with the Chevy rust.
I’ll enjoy it while it’s running great and hope it doesn’t start nickel and diming me too early in my ownership. With it being a 2004, no expectation of it not giving me some problems here and there. Comes with buying used. I’m thrilled it was sub $10k so I’ll try and stay positive about it.

Oh ok, yeah just looked up some stock wheel specs for the Excursion 16’s and the F250 20’s. I never knew the Excursions offset was so low (+6.35). The F250’s offset is +40. Would need to run spacers to make them fit. Will probably go aftermarket then…
Congrats on your Excursion! I live in central Ohio and have never needed 4wd either. My Excursion is a 2003 with the 6.0, you will love it! Mine also came from the south(Tennessee) and i got it 3 years ago. Any questions you may have ill help any way i can. Have you checked the delta temps(split temp between oil and coolant)?
Dont listen to the guys how bad the 6.0 is. Sure they have issues, but what doesnt when they have more than 200k on them. Im just shy of 290k, still going strong and pull 9500 pounds with it frequently!

Yes I bought $800 2" spacers. Wanted the best ones I could get. Most on this site recommended the ones from WheelAdapter.com.

Here is mine.
Love your Excursion! Thanks for the positive words! What should the delta temps be?? I have a SCT tuner that monitors all the sensors so that’s no problem figuring that out.

Yup, Fred’s spacers are the only ones I trust! Exactly what I was thinking when you said you were running 2” spacers.
