I gotta 2002 7.3 powerstroke glow plugs need changed and it allegedly has bigger injectors. No matter how hot it is outside the truck won't start without ether or being plugged in. Once it's started with ether the engine misfires on 2 cylinders until it is warm. But if you plug it in it'll fire right idle and run perfectly. Is this an injector problem or glow plug issue in those 2 cylinders.
I second NO ETHER! And not only on this engine but any engine with glow plugs. My first step would be to ensure that the GPs are working correctly but I suspect deeper issues and quite possibly injectors. As warm as it is, I would expect it to start even without glow plugs and run fine. Rough running until warm is one symptom of worn injectors. As they warm up and internal parts expand, they work better. Plus everything Wes asked about.
Have you done any maintenance under the valve covers?
Does it start if you plug in the block heater?
What engine oil weight are you running?
It Has 400k miles on it I've only had it for about 3 weeks.
never done anything under the hood other then re attach the turbo boot.
I haven't changed the oil yet but will be doing that before I start driving it.
If I plug it in it fires right up idles and runs perfectly.
And I have only used ether a couple times because I can usually plug it in a couple hours prior to needing it moved.
With those miles, expect injectors to be tuckered out if they weren't already done. If you pull the valve covers, you might be able to tell what's in there from the tops of the injectors.
