VanTurbo Downpipe

Ignoring the why and the size, can the down pipe from a van fit between the engine and firewall on the truck?

I have a van turbo on my OBS, but the van turbo sits different than the stock turbo so I’m looking for options to get the top half of a van down pipe and use it on my truck.

or if someone has a stock van down pipe that I can try to fit in there, that works too.

I'll check but I'm pretty sure I threw that away. What sits different about a van turbo? The only difference I recall is a different size exhaust and I bought an adapter to keep my existing system.

The van turbo sits higher than the obs turbo so the obs downpipe wont fit. The OBS DP also hits the SD up pipes. Because of the obs firewall I need to keep to the 3” DP. Looking at the van DP, it looks like it comes out a little further before going down.

Yeah, now it's coming back a little. The turbo does sit higher and I was barely able to keep my existing stuff there.

What makes it sit higher? The pedestal, perhaps?

It's been a few years and my memory is foggy but I do believe that it is the pedestal. I'm thinking that the pedestal has to sit higher to accommodate the different spider.

I think the SD pedestal is higher to clear the compressor and spyder for the IC. Barely clears the OBS cab. Up pipe clamp gouged the heat shield pretty well. I may put a hockey puck lift just to be safe. But I think I need the upper half to clear the up pipes. Just seeing if it would clear the truck. I know by looking at it that I can’t fit the entire van pipe into place with the cab on.

Wouldn't it be easier to find and install a van pedestal then, so everything would fit without a major hassle? Unless it drops the turbo down so low the IC pipe interferes with the valve cover or something.

Its the same pedestal as the SD. I would have to swap back to an OBS turbo and pedestal and spyder and intake manifolds. It’s all or nothing with this swap.

What year van turbo you use?
IM sure your using late 99+ if so you might be able to use the E99 stupid duty pedestal to shorten the height.

Don't you have to raise the ht for the spider to clear stuff?

You're right, forgot that he may be running an IC and using a late 99+ spider.

Op you might end up having to modify the dp regardless

That's what I'd like to check before going down the fully custom DP route. If the van DP can get the pipe from turbo to below the floor hump seam, it will be a lot easier to adapt if from there back to the rest of the exhaust. Trying to hit bends from turbo past the up pipes and fire wall is the tricky part.

Check this video I made a few years back, there's a part on the video where it shows the down pipe to turbo, and now that I remember I installed a 4" long 3" exhaust coupler to extend the Diamond Eye down pipe. Also had to weld the exhaust coupler from the super duty (6.doh have the same size outlet coupler which I used) to the that down pipe.

I'll take some pictures later today so you can see what I have since you have an OBS.
