Well I changed the IAC since because my 96 4.0 V6 Exxplorer was Stuttering and stalling, and my normal mechanic said there was nothing wrong with the O2 sensor or the EGR valve. The guys at Meineke said the same thing as well.
None the wiser since my problem seemed much like the problem in the IAC Sticky. I changed the IAC. Had a tune-up this summer.
Now when I try to start the car is sounds like the battery is maybe running low. Any ideas before I give up and take it in for the dealer to put on part after part until the stumble accross the right fix.
Could be the battery, the alternator, the starter itself, the selenoids, or the main cable that runs to the starter. When did you have the battery replaced. (of course I am assuming that you had the battery replaced at some point since 96) If the battery is old, then it might not be holding a charge. If the alternator were not genterating enough power to recharge the battery you could have problems starting the truck. Do the lights dim exsesivly when sitting at idle? If so, could chance its the alternator. When you had the tune up done, where the ignition wires replaced? A bad wire could also be a problem. That should give you a few things to check. Let us know what you find, and if none of the above is it, I'm sure we can help you locate the problem.
Just went through the exact same thing with my aerostar. After replacing IAC it turned out to be ECC engine temp sensor. Get it up to normal operating temp and then disconnect the sensor. See if that clears it up. It did for me. See my thread https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...hreadid=165900 - maybe it'll shed some light.
