New 22 Lariat with 12 inch screen. The power train is covered for 5 years or 60K miles as is roadside assistance. Why pay double for what is already an expensive vehicle? The electronics is what I am worried about after 3 years. I only drive 5-6K a year as I am retired. At some level the warranty makes sense. Does anyone know which level of ESP the center display and risky electronics is covered? The stock answer is cover everything with Premium and that is what the dealer wants to sell naturally but I prefer to purchase what is practical risk management. Looking at $100 and 8 years with 60K miles of coverage going by my historical driving. Perhaps "ExtraCare" ? Thanks
3Yr / 36K…..whichever comes first then you’re on your own.
Here’s an example that might make you get the Premium coverage that covers everything.
When you’re thinking of the electronics, don’t for about the exterior electrical which includes the OEM LED headlights.
These headlights are not serviceable so if any part of the assembly goes out, you’ll have to replace the entire assembly and one headlight will cost between $1.2K & $2K and that doesn’t include the labor to install it.
As you can see, the cost of one headlight assembly will be close to half the price of the Premium ESP.
Electronics are pretty reliable but only you can determine if you want to take the chance on additional coverage.
Also, you should just go with the zero deductible.
Lombard Ford has the most financing options so if you have a credit card with cash back or even 0% financing for a year or more, this might be a better option instead of adding it into your financing.
In closing, yes, it’ll cost you a little more but you don’t have to purchase the Ford backed ESP until the 3Yr / 36K warranty is about to expire so you have plenty of time.
