Interesting. How are you measuring DEF level?

nothing to do, it probably means you are using the truck just for easy driving.

Towing , high speeds or heavy payload and it will use more def.

There should have been a check engine light as it is part of the emissions controls. Normally a gallon of DEF is consumed for every 100 gallons of diesel fuel. Only a bad NOx sensor should be able to cause problems. With my diesel engine the failing NOx sensor resulted in much too much DEF being added to the exhaust and it took trips to multiple dealers to get the problem diagnosed and resolved.

mine has been showing full for the last 10,000 miles.

every 2500 miles I check to see if I can add and it takes a gallon or so......in spite of the indicator showing full.

someone explained to me that on my model year there are 4 sensors that info the system if there is def in the tank. supposedly the system can hold 7.5 gallons. so if there are 4 sensors then to drop below the first sensor I would have to have consumed 1.8 gallons. since I keep adding a gallon or so every 2500 miles...I am creating my own problem. so I am going to skip the next 2500 mile add a gallon and wait til 5000 elapse miles to see if the indicator drops below full since at that point I should have consumed more than 1.8 gallons.

Run it empty until you get the 500 miles warning

Will be better for the system

Sounds a bit like the RV holding tank systems that notify the owner of the fill level. They are woefully inadequate as well and often replaced with a more accurate digital system.
