I read many threads in this forum but I am still not sure what I should do. I would like to put on a cat-back to gain a bit of power/efficeincy but I dont want loud (I have my reasons, such as just seling my cherokee w/a flowmaster 40 and no cat).
What would someone reccomend for a mellow sound? I dont mind if it gets a bit louder, but I am really not looking for anything to specificaly attract attention.
I have been shopping around for prices on gibson systems (and most places that carry gibson seem to be higher in general around here). I ran across Ravin' mufflers, they claim to outperform magnaflow and flowmaster; has anyone tried these out?
You always need to question claims of 'outperformance'. You can use words and techniques to make any point. Have you checked out www.proficientperformance.com for Gibson prices? That is where I purchased my current system. They were knowledgeable, and seemed like pretty good people over the phone. They also have a large assortment of different exhaust manufacturers, to give you a good comparison of pricing. Personally, I have never heard anything positive or negative about Raven, just so so.
I think that Gibson has a fixed price on their cat-backs. 255 alumnized and 345 SS. I got the SS for 345 and am extremely happy, not too loud but a good deep tone, and good peformance gain to go with it. I'm 100% satisfied with it.
I just bought a 2000 f-150 4.6 with a Ravin Z-33 exhaust. If you are looking for something not too loud, do not go with this exhaust. I belive Ravin makes quieter lines such as the Z-55 or the Z-77. I am going to buy a Z-77 muffler and try it out. The Z-33 has a good sound at idle and acceleration, but at highway speeds, the roar is so loud I have turn the radio up to be able to hear it.
