Waiting period currently

Engine and transmission are done. Many, many parts cleaned, painted and stored. Lots of new parts received; but some are on a long waiting list, like the full grille assembly with park lights. The truck is currently at the body shop for sandblasting, a little body work and then painting.

Hmmmm; what am I going to do to pass the time?

If it was me I would fire that engine up. I mean it's gotta be broken right.? Open headers of course.

If your engine hasn't been run. Running it in on a run stand is an excellent way to do it. That way if there are any problems it is simple and easy to address them. Plus, you get the fun of ratting the neighbors' ears with open exhaust. If you have a flat tappet cam and need to run it for 20-30 minutes to break it in don't forget an engine running with no load at 2000-2500 rpm needs a lot of advance to keep the exhaust gas temps from going thru the roof.

Not sure if I will. I would have to have the transmission attached as the starter bolts to the tranny bell housing. I plan to have the engine/trans sitting in the truck on the mounts. The entire front end will be entirely open as I lift it in; so that would be good time to run it, I think. If something is wrong, very easy to remove it. Worth considering. Thanks.

Just so you know you have choices, we sell a small engine plate that bolts in place on the back of the block in lieu of of bell housing so you can mount a starter on a Windsor.
I don’t know if they exist for other engine families, but they would be fairly simple to fabricate.
