My fuel door is looking rather tattered and I'd like to replace the whole door/hinge etc. with one of those black ones with the fasteners around the perimeter. I prefer a non-locking design.
I replaced mine with the type you are liking but it does have a lock. I really like mine and the key is small I don't even notice it until I want to fill up. I will get a picture tomorrow.
I don't want to carry another key. and besides, if someone wants to steal my diesel and put it in their gasoline car they're in for a surprise. lol
I prefer the look of the cap w/o the lock cylinder.... Any suggestions?
The gas cap keys are typically small and not in the way. At the priced of diesel I'd prefer that someone NOT siphon off $200+ in fuel and a key is a small inconvenience.
They will drill it if they are only planning to hit you once, but an Excursion Tank can be the gift that keeps on giving, if they siphon, sure it takes longer, but they can keep coming back as long as they don't make it too obvious by taking too much too often, but 5 gallons every week or two, the owner will probably just think they got bad plugs, a leaky injector, or some other issue causing excess fuel usage.
I could see it being easily missed and just chalked up to the low mileage the trucks already get.
I used to siphon my dads truck fuel tank for our riding lawn mower all the time and ride it to the Circle K to get soda randomly, we are in farm country so nobody cared about a riding mower going down the side of the road like ever, and if he ever noticed, he never said a word, granted it only held like 1.5 gallons.
Are people steeling diesel?
There are much fewer diesel automobiles and SUV’s than gasoline so I question if theft of diesel is that common.
I do like the RPB but think it would look so much nicer with a unbranded, undecorated plain face. That’s the style I like. If I can’t feel bd it’ll I’ll have to repaint mine and keep it Estate Green like the body.
Comments are welcome..
I would advise against the RBP. I ordered it and gave it away right out of the package because it's a very flimsy mim part. Nothing billet about it.
I wanted a locking door for security, not looks, and ended up paying for a true billet door. $100ish in 2015. I found it on ebay, I'll see if I can find a link.
People are stealing diesel left and right out here in industrial America and anywhere heavy equipment is used. Diesel is still 4.70/gal here, and much higher in the big cities.
What is wrong with your fuel door? Post pic?
Here is the locking cap I did, the 1 additional key is moot for me at this point.
my fuel door is fine functionaly but apparently the PO had a repair done and half or less of the quarter panel was replaced with a red part. My truck is green. They did a *****ty job of painting around the inside of the door. Short of paying way too much to get it painted, I thought replacing would be the solution. To me, a rattle can and manual sanding isn’t a good option. To remove and painstakingly detail it out, it should be cheaper to replace.
sorry for the long explanation…
