Alrighty here which looks to be better? The Nissan is cheaper and has proven reliability whith the 3.3 v-6 and can also have more power whith the super charger. What does the Ranger have up on the Frontier?
Toughness, it's probably cheaper to repair, and best of all...It's 100% AMERICAN MADE! I really don't know in all honesty I never thought to compare the two. I would definately take the Ranger over the Frontier, thats just my personal preferance.
The Frontier has a proven V6?? Says who?? Haven't you heard of all those problems they've been having? Exhaust manifolds cracking over and over again...water leaking into the truck...I'm not going to go on and on but if someone told you the Frontier is a more reliable truck than the Ranger, they lied to you. Heck, even the Supercharged Frontier is weaker (as far as HP and torque) than my Ranger.
I looked at Frontiers before I bought this truck, and the ONLY nice thing about the Frontier is the 4x4 models can be converted to manual hubs if you want. Other than that, there is NO WAY I'd buy one over the Ranger.
Rangers are roomier and have really withstood the test of time. There are a few minor problems that have occurred over the years like the Pulse Vaccuum Hubs that like to crap out, but Ford has done a great job of getting these problems fixed. My 93 has 112,000 on it and runs like new. I don't know much about the Frontier but there is a reason that Ford sells as many Rangers as they do. They are a great truck.
The Ranger is not 100% American made. The V6 is a German design, and the manual transmissions are Toyo Kogo (Mazda) and not very good! I'm sure there are other non US components in there. I've owned 3 Rangers, and the last one (a 1996) was not that great, so I sold it and bought an F150 this year. As for the Nissan, it's probably a good truck, but I think a Toyota may be more reliable.
Driven both and to be quite honest on the highway the frontier was scary. Any wind would blow it around and it would sway a lot, it felt extremely narrow and that it was going to tip over. It was a 4 cyl 4x4 and keeping it at 70+ was really hard up even the smallest of hills. I worked at a dealership at the time and it was a 2000 with no problems as it was completely checked. We also had a V6 Ranger and I liked that truck a lot, especially compared to the Frontier. Go ranger, they've proven themselves a lot better over the years.
Rangers look alot better, I like the 4.0, and my friend beat the heck out of one for 10 years and it is holding up great. Plus cheaper to fix if you need it. They also feel more solid.
I've got a 99 Ranger 3.0 V6 and the only thing I wish it I could change were a manual hub conversion and drop in a 300 i-6...or maybe a 460. This is one great truck which has gone on many 24 hour + road trips at over 80 miles an hour, never a hickup and the stock battery is still going strong.
Nissan must have changed alot of things then. All i know of Nissan is the old Hardbody P/U my dad drives. Its been driven into the ground (its a field maintnence/rescue rig for a concrete pumping company) and it has 345,000miles on the original 3.3v-6. It makes some interesting noise now and again but has never had any reliability problems. I has even been used to tow line pum ps alot (about a 3,000lbs trailer). Thats where i got my Nissan reliability info from.
