No fancy key FOB for me on my (new to me) 2017 XL… But I’m wondering if anyone knows why the basic key is oriented like this? The key body doesn’t align with the key head. I’m sure I’ll get use to it, but it still feels counter intuitive.
I have one of those keys, but I couldn't program it in my truck with my 2 OEM key fobs. I might take it somewhere and see if they can program it for me. I HATE the stupid-large key fob.
It’s been kind of funny- getting use to a traditional key again. Manual door locks and no push button start. It’s like the 80’s all over again.
80's? My car in the late 90's to 2000's still did not have power locks or windows! 94 Ford Probe GT (only options it had were ABS, cassette and rear window defroster)
Is that key "chipped"? As in, does your truck have passive antitheft? I can't remember what Ford calls their system. If it does, that would be cool if one could program the non-fob key to a slightly higher trimmed truck.
I'm with ATC crazy, I very much dislike the size of the key fobs on newer vehicles. There is no reason for such a large plastic enclosure. I'm not a fan of large or many keys in my pockets.

My 2008 Chevy Cobalt that I came from was pretty plain... push down locks, roll down windows (should have seen the kids try to figure that one out!), 5 speed and no cruise control... and it used a chipped key! Must not have been a fancy chip though... I went to the Chevy dealership and they cut me a new key for about $30. Then I had to crank my car with the original key, shut it down, then immediately crank it with the new key... then it was "programmed"... either that, or they were all watching me through the window "program my new key!" LOL...

I can’t tell by looking at it- but if anyone knows how the check, I’m happy to try and report back.

Believe it’s called PATS. If you make a copy of that key to a plain shank, I suspect it will turn the lock cylinder but a lock icon or some other message will appear in the dash.
I’ve heard of guys having issues finding a place that will cut keys they don’t sell themselves. Please give an update with how it goes and cost. Good luck!
