I am tired of the single wheel drive i need both tires spining at all times for cheap$$$. I was thinking of using a mini spool what the pros and cons and how hard are they to install. Thank you for much help.

A spool will lock the two axle shafts together for good, with no differential action at all. Going around corners will require a tire to break loose, and you will wear out tires quickly on paved roads. Also, driving on slippery surfaces (on the road) will become a little tricky at best.
The spool will also offer you complete power to both rear wheels off road, which could be a plus in some concerns.
I don't think it's a great idea for a vehicle that spends even part of it's time on the street. Could cause your truck to be dangerous.
I'd look into a limited slip or a locker.
As far as measuring the rear axle, what are you trying to figure out? Spring perch to spring perch distance, or flange to flange? Or ring gear diameter (i.e. 9 inch)?
A spool is a spool. They lock the axle shafts together.
As far as which differential you have, you should read the axle tags. Generally, the 9 inch and I believe (but I could be wrong) the 8.8 are integral carrier diffs. One easy indicator is there is no differential cover. The 8 inch I believe has a differential cover.
At some point, Ford did switch to a rear that has a cover (bolts visible from the rear of the vehicle) but I'm not sure whether it is 8 or 8.8. I know it's not a 9 inch though.
