No Crank No Start Blown #18 Fuse

When I turn the key to start my F250 fuse # 18 (Push button ignition switch/Ignition switch/Key inhibit) blows. No power to my instrument cluster with no crank no start. Anybody have any ideas?

what year? Under warranty? lariet or higher trim level?

You have a short. Any wiring work done on the truck in the cab or under the hood?

The truck is a 2019 xl stx. Not under warranty. No new wiring. In response to the issue I did get 2 new batteries prior to finding the blown fuse. I was able to replace the fuse and all was fine, after driving the truck 1 time and then sitting a few days New the fuse blows everytime turning the key. No push button start, has a key twist ignition.

Most likely a scuffed/pinched wire
Start looking in the steering column and work your way out from there

See if you can find a wireing diagram, Alldata diy and mitchell on demand DIY, and I believe chilton all have web based service data that you can purchase for your truck and then review the wiring diagram and see what that fuse feeds that will give you a starting point as to where to look for the problem. multi meter and a Test light can be really helpful. As well as an amp clamp with Multi meter if you have one.

OK, set me straight... fuse started blowing BEFORE you got batteries or AFTER?

(The old guy is trying to keep up here... )

I had replaced the batteries when I found there to be no response or power to my instrument cluster after turning my key. After replacing the batteries I did more troubleshooting and found the number 18 fuse to be blown.. It is a micro 3 fuse that is parallel with the instrument cluster which is why I get no power to my dash when turning the key. After replacing that fuse I was able to start the truck and everything was normal. I proceeded to drive the truck a couple times and then after sitting for 2 days I went back to start and had the same problem. Now every time I turn the key the fuse blows.

Thanks for the info about the wiring diagram sources, i will have to look into those and do some troubleshooting to try to find a short.

2017 STX 6.2L. I had this exact same issue happen to me and it turned the truck into a paperweight. Luckily, it was still in warranty and they got it fixed by replacing the shift interlock module. I will edit the post and add the part number if I still have the paperwork as soon as possible!
