TPMS??

What aftermarket tire pressure monitoring systems does anyone recommend for an '05 Excursion? I've had the HELLA system with the internally mounted transmitters for quite a few years. Needs to have at least 5 transmitters because I have one on the spare also. Even replaced the transmitters when needed. HELLA no longer makes the TPM systems. Thus, no replacement transmitters available. I tried the external valve stem cap ones but the caps corroded to the stem threads and I had to cut them off. Also a pain in the a-- to change the tire pressure.

Thanks,
Stevebayshore

I have a TPMS system setup in my 2000, works pefect and tracks pressure and temperature.

You will need 4 of these: they work on 65 and 80 psi tires.

1 of these to program the sensors to the controller

Any 315 Mhz Ford Compatible TPMS Monitor, there are lots, i have the ID1000 made by HUF, which was bought by Intellisense, but they seem to be out of stock everywhere i look. Summitracing sells them as well as their own branded item, they are sold out too.

No wires, comes with a pad that sticks to the dash and hasn't moved. Solar powered but might have batteries in the valve stem sensors but I never had an issue with them. Tells your temp too.

Had them running for a little more than a year, bout 15k miles, three tire rotations. Nuff said. Get them and be happy.

Oh disregard, see you want 5 sensors and don't like the valve sensors. Anyways will highly recommend to anyone else.. Maybe your issue is you use the locker? I never used the locker and sensor comes off just like any other valve stem cap.

I use internal banded TPMS from TST. I have 8 wheels set up at the moment. Truck and camper. I think you can monitor up to 40 sensors on the display, and have multiple trailer profiles. Since temp is measured from within the tire at the rim, I felt that's more accurate than the external cap sensors. Functional sensing pressures are 1-188 PSI..

I too have used the TST 507RV system, worked great but suffered some failures after a trip through snow ice and salt. I used the screw on flow through sensors.

Today, I’m going to attempt to mount a TST system with the tire stem flow through sensors.

I installed a TST 507 with 10 flow through sensors for my DRW truck and twin axle FW trailer. It monitors pressure and tire temperatures. Pretty easy to install except ALL tires have to have steel valve stems so I had to have all 10 tires dismounted and steel valve stems installed. Finding the valve stems for DRW's that permit access to the inner tire is a little challenging. Had to use some curved stem extensions. Easy now to add air to any tire and I mounted the display using a rear view mirror cell phone mount and it is easy to view by either driver or passenger.

A friend of mine who was towing her TT a couple of weeks ago had a tire blow and has well over a thousand dollars worth of damage. I asked her if she had a TPMS, at which she said “a what?”
TST installed. Works great. Didn’t need to mount repeater to reach the four (4) tires on the TT. Best part is my pressure gauge is within a half a pound of the TPMS.
I read a tip somewhere that you should place a squirt of dialectic grease on the valve stem so the TST cap/nut doesn’t permanently stick.

I bought my TST kit at the Florida RV show in January, the regional rep told me if I didn't use the repeater I would not have a warranty in the event of TPMS failure . So I mounted it to the trailer tongue, I think there may have been a mention in the book too.

Interesting. I wonder why? Would that put more strain on the monitor/senders?
Now you got me thinking.

The repeater/signal amplifier is self powered, so no strain on the display or senders either way. They're just covering themselves I think.

I like the idea of an internal sensor. I can't really say why...it just seems more OEM level design. How long do the batteries last? Does this mean that the tires need to be removed and remounted every time the battery dies?

2 year bumper to bumper warranty on the complete system, 5 plus years expected on the internal sensors, that are laser welded closed, and require complete replacement of the sensor when the battery goes. Currently 98.00 per sensor. Heck, my Jeep Wrangler is still using the OE batteries on the TPMS 12 year later now.
