One of my running boards is rotten. I took it to a welding shop and he said he could repair it if he could get some scrap pieces from another running board with the stamped raised ridges.
Does anyone have an old rusty running board, either side, any part of the running board and any model that they would be willing to cut some sections out of that I could use to repair mine.
I just need a couple of sections with the stamped raised parts in good shape. I do not need the reinforcing bar.
You could have him weld in a flat patch then weld on a strip of 1/8 x 0.625 flat bar or whatever the width is to make it look original?
We talked about that as an option but it would be difficult to make the transition between the stamped and steel bar. I am keeping all options open and all suggestions welcome! Thanks for responding.
It shouldn't be too hard to find some scrap running boards for repairs. Too bad you don't have an earlier truck. I have several scrap boards for the 48-52 trucks

Aren't the ridges and valleys the same?
I fixed up my 54 in 1998-99. I wish I knew then what I know now. I was a member of FTE but it was in it's infancy. My original running boards had holes in them that had steel welded over top. But they were straight with no dents in the sides. I thought there was no way to fix them. I let my body man have them for scrap. I could kick myself. I did save my doors, tailgate and grille however. They are in my garage.
My doors are better than many that are saved now. But back then no one made outer or bottom patch panels. So I bought good used ones.
I have a single side step off of a 63 ish ford truck. Do you happen to know if the ridge shape and spacing are the same as what you need? I picked it up to repair my 51 boards but it is not correct for my needs. If it will work for you I can cut it down to just the flat step portion for shipping. You are more than welcome to it just cover shipping from VA. I will measure it when I get home from work today and post them here to see if it is big enough to cover what you need.

Can't help with the boards but I do like jnkyrd1 with the fake foods photos, I am just ready to order the oil can and a melted ice cream bar. Will use them at shows. (after adding a magnet to the underside) to keep people from stepping on my on my running boards,
On the running boards, I don't know if the ridges and valleys are the same or not. I do know that the supports on the underside aren't the same (or at least not in the same orientation
