As some of ya'll know, I just bought a 1997 F350 PSD w/approx 107K. I changed my oil & filter w/ Motorcraft parts. It went well. Drove around and all seemed fine.
This morning (a little colder than it has been) I started the truck and it started up reasonably quick but a little "harsh", not smooth like usual and was accompanied by a rather large puff of smoke. I haven't seen the truck smoke since I've owned it (except when you nail it!).
Also, the "wait to start" light always only comes on for approx 2-3 seconds. My Dodge Cummins, in similiar conditions, would be on while I put my seat belt on etc... I could also hear the Cummins when it "cycled".
I don't hear this truck "cycle" no matter what the temp is?!?! Now tonight is supposed to be COLD!! I plugged it in. We'll see how she does in the morning.
Does this sound like a relay going bad (or already) bad?
If it started up your plugs& relay are fine. If it was running realy rough id check for a dead glowplug. My 99 smokes when it gets below freezing while it warms up if I don,t plug it in but it always starts fine.
