I thinK Iam getting fumes in the cab. I have had the truck for one week and my eyes burn on occasion along with a burning nose-throat. Is there something that could be leaking exhaust into the cab? There is not a real strong smell of exhaust all the time. I think it happens when I use my heater/air. I checked my coolant and it does not smell like diesel........ I also had a muffler shop check it and he said there were no exhaust leaks, but I am not convinced. What should I check or look for...... FYI- My exhaust system is stock pipe minus the Cat and Muffler..
this is normal for a Diesel. I have Two Ford Excursion Limiteds, and both of them are powered by the 7.3 liter Powerstroke Turbo Diesel. It really makes me mad cause its hard to run the heater when your in the city cause the diesel fumes come thru your air vents. For me, I turn my heat on when I am going down the road, and when I start to come to a red light, I turn the heat off. Another thing is, when you are backing out of your driveway, dont have the heater on, cause it will come in your air vents that way also. If you live in warm weather, always run with your air on MAX A/C so that it recirculates the air inside your vehicle instead of sucking out the outside air (which brings in fumes)
The 7.3 liters are tried and true engines, but I must say, they are some very fumey engines. I know for me in the winter time, I cant start them up and let them warm up without the fumes coming inside my house. It really ticks me off, but you have two choices, either get a diesel and live with the fumes and get great fuel economy, or get a gas engine that only gets 10 miles to the gallon. For me, I will tough out the fumes.
I have heard the new 6.0 liter powerstroke have cleaner emissions.

You might want to check the tightness of the clamp between the turbo and the downpipe. I noticed mine leaking the other day upon startup (I had a friend start it while I watched under the hood after doing a glow plug replacement).
